So I got up the morning of my

So I got up the morning of my visa appointment, surprisingly in time to reach the consulate on time. This was my second attempt and after being rejected the first time I was doing everything different, so I had a formal attire with a tie unlike last time wen I went with a pair of jeans n a sweat shirt. And I think this did the trick.
I had done a bit of online research for dos n dont's, so I read at a lot of places that Ur supposed to greet the officer. I dint know who my interviewer was so I kept greeting everyone I crossed with a smile n a good morning. Then I saw my name flash in the monitor, I went to the officer greeted him n he started with his questions:
1 how long have you been in Canada?
My ans: bout a year
2 what do u do?
My ans: I am a dentist and preparing for my licence exams here.
3 are you working?
Ans: no
4 then who is funding you for your stay n expenses?
Ans: my parents
5 what do they do?
They are dentists
(This is where he started taking me seriously or it seemed so)
6 then why did you come to Canada n not settle with them?
Ans: I wanted to do my residency from Uni of Toronto Which is one of the beat in the world.
7 are you already going there?
Ans: no but I am preparing for an exam which will get me there. It's on 4feb in Canada.

Thankyou sir your visa is approved u'll get it in a weeks time.
Then I went n partied hard.....

This is excellent! Thank you

This is excellent! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We really appreciate it!

Well I was not as fortunate

Well I was not as fortunate as you but frankly I do not care. My company wanted to send me for a training session in Charlotte and I think I provided all the correct answers but still got the 214 (g).

I went to Delhi Consulate on October 12, 2011.

  1. VO : Good Morning. Me: Good Morning. How are you?
  2. Where do you work? Me : XYZ
  3. Who is your client in the U.S.? Me: AAA
  4. Have you been to the U.S. earlier? Me : No. This would be my first time.
  5. Why do you want to go to U.S.? Me: I want to attend a training program
  6. What is your role in your company? Me : I explained my role in full detail. Also, told him my salary.
  7. Where did you study? Me : XYX
  8. Are you married? Me  : No.
  9. Can you do the training program here? Me : No.

That's it. Then he told me that he could not give me the visa because I failed to convince the visa officer.

I am thinking of applying again but some people say that it is not a good idea unless some things significantly change. One thing is for sure. I did not have my tickets. Perhaps if I had booked tickets he would have been more convinced.

I do not care much but just want to prove a point that I can get this visa.

AK

The reason he probably denied

The reason he probably denied you because you did not convience the Consul Officer your main purpose. Most importantly that you will return home after your visit. Once you get your training, he would be afraid you may stay and find work there I am assuming. So since you did not brought that to his attention of your full intent, he declined you. His role is not to care what you do, but want to find strong significant reason of you returning back to your home land. He don't want you to illegally stay like most people does.

Hello members,

Hello members,

Don't lose hope. Apply after a reasonable amount of time has elapsed. I have been using this forum for my wife who got her H1 visa recently. Thank you very much for all the help.

I am not living with her due to job issues but I applied for a visitor visa. My company wanted me to do a training program. I applied for visitor visa 2 times. After getting rejection first time, I re-applied and got it.

FIRST TIME : BUSINESS VISA INTERVIEW

The highlight of this interview was that the Officer was really rude and she snapped at me as though I had done a crime by applying. She asked me how many years I had worked in my company. I said 4 years. She snapped ,"You are so senior. Why do you want to go to the U.S. for training now?" I said,"It's a management decision and I am required to learn a new program". She asked me describe my role in detail and then abruptly decided that I should not be given the visa. That's it.

I was very frustrated.

SECOND TIME : BUSINESS VISA INTERVIEW

This time I took a letter from my superior of why this training was important to me and my organization. My company was paying for the trip so I also blocked the dates and took my travel itinerary with me. One more thing changed: I was married by the time I applied second time and perhaps, that showed ties to my country! I got the visa and the questioning lasted only 5-10 minutes. The person was polite.

So my advice is that apply again if there is a significant change in your circumstances...

If anyone needs any help, let me kno.....

This website is quite good.

This website is quite good. Let me share how we got our parents' visa to visit us in Seattle/

  1. I sent a letter of sponsorship.
  2. They also had evidence showing ownership of property, business, etc.
  3. They took their own bank statements.
  4. They had copies of our passports and I -797. I am on H1 visa.
  5. They took a bunch of other documents , I cannot remember from the top of my head right now; but mostly those shown on VFS portal.

They were asked only two questions:

  1. Why do you want to visit U.S.?
  2. Where does your son live?

That's it. It was really simple and the interview took less than 5 minutes. I think it is easier for parents to get this visa...

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks,

Mandy

Hello Everyone,

Hello Everyone,

Almost everyone in our family was granted visa without any problems.  You can go to immihelp.com and see the list of documents that are needed to apply for a B1 visa, thats what we did. In my opinion they look for reasons for you to come back and not settle there. My brother who was a student got his visa because he was still attending college, my parents because they both had their business and two kids in India, my husband's Mausa Mausi because they have government jobs and so on. If you can convince them that you have enough reasons to come back I guess that will help. Rest all is pure luck. Best of luck everyone.

Hello Everone,

Hello Everone,

I need urgent help from your side.

My Husband has gone to US on H1B in Jan 2012 through his company . His company was supposed to sponser my  trip as well so we filled DS160 form for H4 visa but now company is saying my husband is having LCA receipt & neeed to have new petition & again stamping is to be done.

For travelling to US  I need to wait another 4-5 months till my husband gets new petition. In that case can I applyfor B1/B2 visa & then apply for H4 after 6 mothns as I am not able to edit DS160 form to change the sposerer ??

Please advise.

Hello Amita,

Hello Amita,

That's a very puzzling situation and I can understand your frustration! Not too sure if the the B1/B2 route would work for you or not.

It's really not clear to us why your company is asking your husband to go for another stamping. What is the validity of his I797?

Let us know.

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

Today my parents went for the B1 visa interview and IT GOT REJECTED. We were in shock at the questions that were levelled at them and the final cause of denial.

I am posting their experience to share the odd process with everyone, how we are not able to meet our parents due to this subjective process!

Parents : Good morning, how are you?

VO :  I am well. How are you?Thank you.

VO: I see here you are applying for a visitor visa. For how long do you plan to go?

Parents : 3 months.

VO : Why do you want to go to U.S.?

Parents:My daughter is pregnant. We want to go and meet the baby.

VO : You mean you will go and babysit the baby!

Parents : silent moment. Did not know what to say.

Parents : We want to meet out grandchild.

VO : Do you have a license to babysit since you plan to go there and do exactly that? You know there are licensed babysitters in U.S. and they will not have a job because of you, Sir.

VO  : Who will take care of your expenses over there?

Parents : Our children will do that.

VO : Will your daughter pay you for the babysitting services?

Parents : We will not take any money! What are you saying, Officer?

VO : I am sorry I cannot give you the visa.

My parents were so disappointed. I had no clue they were asking such questions. I searched this website and no one has shared such a horrible experience. Perhaps my parents were unlucky and they are starting a new trend of questions. If your parents are visiting you at the time you are planning a family, please be careful and prepare how you will face these questions.

We will move back to our home country. There is no point of staying here when your very own parents and siblings cannot visit us.

If anyone else is out there who faced such a horrible interview, please share and make me feel better. I am so so devastated.

Got my B2 visa.

Hello everyone,

We have been following updates on this website for a long time. Thank you to the managers and community for all the tips.

My wife and I got the B2 visa today. We went to the Mumbai Consulate. No documents were asked. Just a few questions which I am listing here. Be confident and give them a reason to come back. They will give you the visa.

  1. What is your name?
  2. Are you a couple?
  3. Have you visited U.S. before?
  4. Why do you want to go to the U.S.?
  5. Where are you currently working?
  6. What do you plan to do in the U.S.?

That's all. We got the visa. No documents were checked. It took less than 10 minutes.

Thank you all.

Amit

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

I just graduated and I wanted my parents to be here for my graduation.

Yes they were here and I would like to share their visa interview:

  1. Are you both married?
  2. Why do you want to go to the U.S.?
  3. What ties do you have to come back to the country?
  4. Where do you live?
  5. Do you have a bank balance? I was taking care of all the travel expenses so they said no.
  6. Do you work? My parents are retired so they said no.

Their interview was in Hindi.

Hope this can be helpful to others.

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

Our children live in the U.S. and we are happy to share that today we got the visitor visa. My wife and I had prepared very well for the B1 visa interview along with our children's help and we are happy that we finally got it.

Here are some of the key parts of our visitor visa experience:

  1. We arrived at the Consulate 15 minutes prior to our appointment time. This was good as there is no place to park the vehicle outside the Consulate.
  2. We did not carry any cellphones.
  3. We went in, got our documents checked, had the body scan done, and they checked out photographs. Everything seemed to be to their satisfaction. We got a token number and we waited for our turn.
  4. One officer was having quite a bad day and we did not see even one single acceptace on that window. We hoped that we did not have to meet that officer. As luck would have it, it was the same officer we met!
  5. I greeted him politely and he asked us what we do professionally and why are we wanting to visit the U.S. I answered and told him that both of us were working and that we'd like to see his great country! He smiled and said "Congratulations, welcome to the U.S"
  6. That is it. We did not have to show a single paper and the interview lasted for less than two minutes. My perception of that officer changed.
  7. We got our stamped passports within 1 week.

Thank you to this forum for infusing us with all the positive energy. Our tip to everyone else would be to prepare well, be honest, confident, and just follow the rules.

Hi members,

Hi members,

I had applied for a visitor visa for my parents. We had sponsored their visit so we sent an affidavit of support which is the form I -134 to prove that we had enough funds to take care of their travel, medical, and living expenses. We sent a copy of our bank balance as well for this.

In addition to this they prepared a big file with all the other papers needed:

  • our passports copy
  • our birth certificates
  • their passports
  • their marriage certificate
  • their employment papers
  • copy of DS-160 confirmation pages for both
  • HDFC receipts
  • Interview appointment letter
  • Our invitation letter for them
  • Affidavit of support, I -134/copies of our bank statements

They took the interview in hindi. They were asked the following questions :

  1. What do you do? Father is retired. Mother showed her employment papers
  2. Where do you live?
  3. For how long do you want to go to U.S.?
  4. Where does your daughter live?

That is it. And the VO told them that their passports with the tourist visa stamp would be sent home in a week.

Hope this information helps people.  Thank you for this wonderful forum!

I am in us for a few years now on H1 & my parents just came last week to see me on B1/B2.

My sister is scheduled to appear for an interview for the visa next week.

Should she say to the officer upfront that parents are already here? or should wait for the VO to ask?

She is a 3rd year student in a 5 year course.

Any tips would really be helpful.

Thanks,

Ankit

Hi

Hi

I want to give my CPA exams in USA, but have a problem of stammering/ faltering while speaking. Due to this problem, Visa Interviwer thinks that I am not confident and hence was rejected once. Please tell me suitable way to apply. Thanks.

I applied for b1/b2 visitor's visa on 27 January 2013 in the consulate general Dharan Saudi Arabia. Interview went well - my Consular Officer was a decent and smart girl. I was under the impression that i will get my visa in a couple of weeks. But the Consulate did not contact me. Anyhow i had to travel so i wrote an email to the consulate that please return back my passport and after my return i'll send it back... Well, after 15 days of vacation i arrived back to Saudi Arabia and checked the status of my visa online it said "REFUSED". I sent an email to embassy to know that why my visa was refused. They replied that my visa refused for administrative processing under section 221 (g) and they asked me to send back my passport to the consulate thru courier. I submitted again my passport a week ago. I am wonder why they asked for my passport when they denied my visa already and today again i saw my visa status online which says "refused" by now they did not ask me for any additional document. Please reply Sir.

Thanks in advance .

HI,

I woke up in the morning for my interview at 7am in U.S consulate in Vancouver. I realized that my parents were supposed to send me Financial support letter cause their printer was not working the night before, so then my dad could not print his letter, sign and scan it. After couple of refreshes on my phone I was shocked not to see my parent's email. I just told myself that I will explain everything to the officer even though I was hopeless and thought that its not gonna work. I told myself that I would say this to the officer: "technical problems are being a great part of the everyday life and I was not exempted". With a pair of nerds glasses, and a black shir with cotton jeans I was already set for the interview. I added a touch of a perfume, put my jackets on. After I reached the embassy I proceeded to exit the building and went to get my parent's letter of financial support printed. The second time i reached the waiting area my number was already passed. So I let one of the staff know and he said I must go to the interview section. Securities there helped me to get there. So I stayed with a distance from the interviewer and waited for the ongoing interview to be finished. Then he called me, saying:

-Were you skipped?

Yes, I said.

-What was your number?

Your request for the visa is approved. You can take your passport back in 1 week.

I said: Awesome, thank you very much.

The officer said: your welcome.

The interview was finished (I was being very honest). It all felt very short. Then my brother came and picked me up we chatted and then he dropped me and I went back to my sleep.

hi, (B2 VISA)

hi, (B2 VISA)

Funny, all these forums I read through to kinda get me ready for mine. I thought I was going to be asked question after question but when the

interview began, got all my papers out, all organised for what was coming.  I greeted the officer (a cool relaxed jolly dude) he greeted me back. Went like this:

  officer: Purpose of trip?

me: tourism, visiting my brother's graduation

  officer: and where?

   me: New York

officer: Oh, nice to see someone go to New York rather than California ( popular state with people in my country)

After this, the officer typed some stuff on his computer and asked no more questions. I was worried because I read other forums

of people being asked 2-3 questions then getting the reject stamp. Then he looked at me with a smile and said in a cool manner, "You can pick up your passport tomorrow. I was taken aback but then thanked him. No questions on bank statements, employment or sponsors, I expected a tough session but it went smoothly, a little too smoothly. But I got the visa and happy.

Advice:  Confidence. Be Cool.
