Applying for H4 visa in Nepal

This post is specific for H4 applicants in Nepal. The application of visa process is same as any other visa. Here is a quick summary of what the H4 visa is abour and why should you apply for H4 visa in Nepal.

  1. If you and/or your children under 21 years of age plan to live in the U.S. with your spouse who is on the H1 visa you should apply for the H4 visa.
  2. If you do not intend to live in the U.S. and simply want to visit your spouse (on the H1 visa) you should apply for the visitor visa (B2 visa). You may also quality for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) that entitles a person to travel visa free to the U.S. Please check for more details to see if you qualify.
  3. You are not required to pay any visa issuance fee if you are a Nepali applying for the H4 visa. You are however, required to pay the $150 visa appointment fee at Nabil Bank.
  4. Apply for the visa wisely. Prepare for all the paperwork in advance.
  5. Please complete the online visa application form also known as the DS-160. What is DS-160 and how should I fill DS-160 for H4 visa?
  6. Make sure that you print the DS-160 confirmation page with the bar code. This is an important document to be used later during your H4 visa interview and at the time of payment of fee.
  7. Take $150 in Nepalese Rs. to Nabil bank. You will also need to carry your passport and the copy of the DS-160 confirmation page.
  8. You may go to any of the Nabil banks located at these places:
    1. Maharajgunj, Kathmandu   
    2. Biratnagar   
    3. Birgunj   
    4. Pokhara   
    5. Butwal   
    6. Nepalgunj   
  9. Schedule a date for the H4 visa interview at the Nabil bank. You will get a yellow receipt from the bank for depositing the fee. Take care of this receipt. You will need it at the time of the H4 visa interview.
  10. Collect the necessary documentation for the H4 visa interview. Make sure that your documents packet has your passport, the yellow receipt, and the confirmation page. Carry a 2”X2”-sized photo of yourself as well. Take enough evidence to show your relationship to the H1 visa holder. Usually, a marriage certificate, photos, etc must be taken as proof of marriage.
  11. That's it. Be confident and give the right answers! Do not bluff and try to give honest replies.
  12. Get the H4 visa !

This is Roht. Actually my wife got the H-4 VISA recently. My H1b was approved last May and it is going to be effective from coming October 1st. So my question is: what is the earliest date my wife can enter the USA. Please do let me know ASAP and thank you very much for the information provide by your site.

Hi Rohit,

My h1 was also approved in last june and my wife from Nepal need to apply for h4 as well. I was under the assumptin that we can't pply for h4 untill my h1 is started in october.Can you please give me share your experience?
